Goa minister’s son acquitted of rape
The Judge while acquitting Rohit remarked that the prosecution failed to record testimonies of the 14-year-old victim and her mother.
The trial hit a dead end when the mother, a year ago wrote to the Court that she does not want to pursue the matter against Rohit while also refusing to respond to several summons.
Goa police had even sought assistance of the Indian embassy in Berlin to record their testimonies via video-conferencing.
The mother-daughter duo flew back to their native country even before a chargesheet was filed in January 12, 2010.
On October 2, 2008, the victim’s mother complaint in the Calangute police station that Rohit sexually assaulted her minor daughter and was sending her daughter lewd SMSes.
She even accused him of forcing the minor to smoke cigarettes and drink alcohol to evade pregnancy.
However, during the trial, the mother wrote to the Court that she and her daughter were not willing to pursue the case.
The chargesheet accused Rohit of rape and obscenity stating that in the last week of September 2008, Rohit under the pretext of going to Miramar took the victim in an Audi car to Bambolim. He then molested the girl and had intercourse with her.
