Bhubaneswar: Block-grant teachers in Orissa called off strike today. They decided to join works from Monday. The demonstrators ended their strike on Sunday after holding discussions with School and Mass Education Minister Pratap Jena here.
It should be noted that they had been on a 42-day long strike to fulfill their various proposed demands. As many as 25,000 teaching and non-teaching staff of 1983 block-grant schools had been staging demonstrations since August 01 to fulfill their demands. They had been demanding to abolish the block-grant system and pay 100 per cent of the expenses for the school in grant-in-aid system.
The strike was called off after the minister assured the agitators saying that the government would soon take steps to solve their issues.
