New Delhi: SHEMROCK & SHEMFORD Group of Schools, India's No.1 Preparatory School Chain, donated books to underprivileged children from CHILDLINE India foundation NGO in Delhi on the occasion of Literacy Day.
SHEMROCK & SHEMFORD Group of Schools celebrated Literacy Day by donating approximately 10,000 books to underprivileged children from their local slum areas across India. Along with Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Bangalore & Chennai, this book drive successfully took place in all across 175 schools nationally.
Close to 10,000 students across the countrydonated their previous years' books, most of which will be from their specially designed curriculum to help them to gain knowledge in a fun & interesting way, making learning more enjoyable.
Speaking on this initiative Dr. D.R.Arora, Chairman, SHEMROCK & SHEMFORD Group of Schools, said "It's a noble cause for us to support this drive and we encourage our students to imbibe the spirit of giving back to society. Education for all is a motto that every Indian should follow and this is our way of encouraging young minds to be aware of their role in this mission. A greater part of bottom of the pyramid segment in India do not have a single book to provide for their children."
At least 35 million children between the age of 6 to 14 years do not attend school and 53% of girls in the age group of 5 to 9 years are illiterate. (Source 7th Survey by All India Education 2002). In order to bring difference to those innocent lives, such initiatives will help in nurturing those young minds and help them be part of the national mainstream.
