Punjab Governor and UT Administrator Shivraj Patil on Friday said that e-Revolution must touch all aspect of our life whether it is agriculture, genetics, biotechnology, or nano-technology, in order to bring about inclusive growth. He addressed a gathering at the inaugural of the 7th edition of IT conclave, e-Revolution.
He said that the present millennium does not belong to any country, state, organisation or individual since we are living in an age of interdependence. He asked the private sector to invest in research, set up universities beyond the metros and cities and pave the way for the dissemination of knowledge. He called upon IT professionals to find solutions for the agriculture sector and management of land fertility and irrigation to prevent wastage of water.
Shankar Aggarwal, Additional Secretary, Department of Information Technology, Government of India, commented on the need to improve our education system which is currently based more on acquisition of knowledge and not on application of knowledge. He said, “ By 2020 India shall have 450 million youngsters in the age group of 1-19 years, who can revolutionise India only if they are imparted quality education.”
