Orissa: Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, 15,000 eminent scientists to attend National Science Congress


Bhubaneswar: Orissa to host prestigious  99th  National Science Congress, the prestigious science conference of the country. It will be hoisted in Odisha in joint collaboration among KIT, NISER and Govt of Odhisa.

A high level review meeting to this effect was held today under Chairmanship of Chief Secretary Bijay Kumar Patnaik in the secretariat   conference hall wherein Sri Achyut Samant, Founder, KIIT &KISS presented different aspects of the festival for discussion.

Discussions in the meeting reveal that Odisha has got the rare opportunity of hoisting this national event after a long gap of 35 years.  It has been decided that Science Congress will be held in KIIT premises from 3rd to 7 th January, 2011.   The congress is scheduled to be inaugurated on 3 rd January by Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh.

Around 15,000 eminent scientists will join the congress among whom 500 will be coming from countries aboard.  More than one hundred twenty noted scientists of India who are members of Indian Science Congress will also join the event. Around 3000 scientists and research scholars from Odisha will also participate in it. A number of events will be organized along with the conference. Some leading events are Children Science Congress  and Unesco Kalinga Award ceremony on 4th Jan, Women Science Congress on 5th Jan, Valedictoryfunction of Science Film Festival on 6th Jan ( the film festival will start from 3rd Jan along with inauguration ofScience Congress), Closing Ceremony and Acceptance of Presidentship of Centenary Celebration by Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Sing .
There will be 25 technical sessions in the conference. A first-rate science exhibition will be organized involving the leading Science and Technology institutes like ISRO and  NSER . A Bigyan Jyoti will arrive Bhubaneswar from New Delhi after traversing 25 states. It has been decided that Odisha Bigyan Jyoti will start from Khandapada,  the birth place of Pathani Samant and will come  via Cuttack the Karmabhumi of Pranakurshna Parija who was ex- President of National Science Congress from Odisha. Chief Secretary has advised Secretary School & Mass Education Mrs. Aparajita Sadangi, and Secretary, ST & SC Dev. Sri Santosh Sadangi  present in the meeting  to create chances for  school students for  witnessing this grand science festival by involving teachers and School Inspectors.  Other important events are National Level Essay competition and cultural programmes.
An elevated exhibition named as Odisha Mandap will also  be organized to show case Odishan handicraft. It has been decided that a Joint Advisory Committee will be formed with members form Administration, KIIT and NISER to monitor theses activities. Chief Secretary has directed BMC to keep the city absolutely clean and beautiful. Sri Patnaik has also emphasized on security, traffic management and crowd management during the festival.
The side wall of bridges and bays will be decorated with Odishan paintings by BMC on PPP mode. Secretary Higher Education Sri C.S.Kumar,  Secretary Science & Technology Sri D.N.Gupta Secretary Works Sri S.Ray, CMD IDCO Sri Priyabrata Patnaik,  Secretary Handloom & Textiles Smt Arati Ahuja,  Secretary Homes, Sri M.Padhee  Sri Registrar, NISER Sri R.K.Naik along with other members participated in discussions.
