Orissa: CMAS Leader Nachika Linga appears in Public Meeting

The Most wanted tribal leader by both Andhra – Odisha state police from 4th December 2009 Nachika Linga urged the governments to probe the illegal, undemocratic path adopted by the police initiated the false cases against the tribals and confined more than 200 tribals in Jails.
Linga even declared himself will be present for talks with the governments.  He urged the government to release all those we have been confined in jails.  The leader of Chasi Mulia Adibasi Sangh (CMAS) of Narayanpatna block in Koraput district of Odisha state urged the state government to hold a direct talks with them regarding land reforms and to create peace under Narayanpatna and Bandhugaon blocks.  It was declared in a well attended public meeting organized by the CMAS at Kumbhari of Narayanpatna block 5 K.M distance from the BSF camp.
 Linga urged the government to withdraw the police force deployed in the name of Anti Naxal Operation.  The meeting coincided with the anniversary of imposition of emergency in the country on 26th June’1975.  The leaders who spoke in the meeting said Linga, who is still “Most Wanted” as per police records alleged that the state government had not taken steps to restore the tribal lands in Narayanpatna and Bandhugaon blocks of Koraput district.
They said if the government did not initiate the land reform process than they may again opt for the path of agitation.  Mr. Linga opined of irrigation facility in Narayanpatna and Bandhugaon blocks “if Andhra Pradesh government can plan up irrigation project on the down streams of Jhanjabati river, than why can not our government opt for an irrigation project on the same river in Narayanpatna block” he asked.
The CMAS decided to prevent manufacturing, sale and consumption of liquor and our demand before the government is proper facilities related to irrigation, Education and health, he added.  Prafulla Samantra of Lok Shakti Abhijan said Odisha governments oppressive actions against democratic organizations remember the days of repressive emergency in the country.  He asked the state government to release all activist of the CMAS including its advisor Gananadha Patro by 30th June, as per the promise made by the government.  He wanted Mr. Linga name to be removed from the “most wanted” list of police so that talks could be initiated between him and the government.  Social Activist Mr. Dandapani Mohanty said now it was the duty of the government to fulfill all 14 promises it made to mediators for the release to Malakangiri Collector and the Jr. Engineer who were abducted by Maoist in February.
