Mexus Education announces ‘Student Icon of India 2011


Mexus education took the event global, by announcing an education exploration tour to NASA as the grand prize for all the Student Icon winners this year.


Mexus Education, an educational innovation enterprise, announced the winners of the nationwide ‘Iken Scientifica 2011- Season IV’ at the grand finale held at the renowned knowledge centre of Mumbai, IIT Powai on Saturday, June 11, 2011.
The event saw 275 finalists from 26 cities competing for the prestigious title of ‘Student Icon of India 2011’. Eight students were declared winners across the 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th standard categories. In the junior category, Taha Juzar, Kuwait; Samyak Parmar, Bright Day School, Baroda; Joel Jaison, J.H. Ambani Saraswati Vidya Mandir, Surat  andGauri Manoj Lad, Fatima High School, Mumbai were declared winners, whereas in the senior category, Devika, MGD School, Jaipur; Rishi Raj, Laxmi International, Vapi; W. Keerthana, Hyderabad and Jaspreet Sandhu, Saupins School, Chandigarh.

Mexus education took the event global, by announcing an education exploration tour to NASA as the grand prize for all the Student Icon winners this year. Prizes worth Rs. 50 lakh in total were given out to all the participants at the various levels of Iken Scientifica.

Speaking on the initiative, Saurabh Saxena, Director, Mexus Education, said, “At Mexus Education, our over-riding aim is to make students enjoy the process of learning. All our products and services under the brand Iken including Iken Scientifica provide platform for students from across the country to unearth hands-on and enjoyable ways of learning. Iken Scientifica aims to boost budding talent to showcase an extraordinary aptitude in lateral thinking and experimentation.”

“The fourth chapter of Iken Scientifica has observed to establish Iken Scientifica as India’s premier science and technology talent hunt, we have received participation from schools in the middle east. We have also had schools from Singapore, Indonasia, Malaysia and Africa show immense interest in Iken Scientifica” He added.

Brigadier Shushil Bhasin, Former Chairman, Army School Bareilly and training coordinator, ASC Centre and College said, “We are delighted to be associated with this prestigious event and has seen an up rise in student participation and acceptance by the parents. I believe it’s a great platform for students to showcase their talent and drive them towards experiential and innovative learning.”

The Guests of Honour who attended the event were Miss Joy Townsend, Co-founder, Director and CEO ,Destiny Education; Brig. Shushil Bhasin, Chairman, Empower; K.R Maalathi, CEO of the Monarch International School, Chief Mentor of Kaligi Group of Schools; Prof B.L Handoo, Educational advisor; Kunal Sharma, Director, Mexus Education.

The Grand Finale was designed with a clear focus to enhance the ability of the participants to effectively use technology and in creating human networks that can be utilised to impart quality education of the future

The various rounds where the finalists participated were as follows:
  • Game On: Interactive FLASH games to test a student’s logical ability.
  • AquaSoccer: Building robots such that they play a game soccer in a pool of water.
  • RoboSoccer: Building robots such that they play a game of soccer on ground.
  • Design for giving: Making an innovative design collaborating with technology for the social cause.
  • Information design: Testing a student’s micro level thinking by giving away a problem.
  • Junkreate: Creating working models from the given junk material.
