On November 11, when Shiksha Ka Adhikar, an awareness campaign for the Right of all Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act, 2009 is launched across 13 lakh schools across the country, the children in many states will spend much of their morning listening to a string of messages.
At first, there was the Prime Minister’s message as part of the Central government’s efforts to launch the nationwide awareness campaign. This was followed by Sibal’s message that outlines the basics of the Act. This was announced at the state education ministers’ meeting in the Capital on October 18.
Many states, which are not ruled by the Congress, objected to what they termed the “politics of education” by ignoring the leaders of the states not ruled by the Congress. So, now several of them, including Gujarat, Bihar, Orissa, Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh, will also read out another message of the respective chief ministers to the children on the day of the launch. Some will even have a message from the state education minister. That makes a total of four messages.
